That Sunset
That Sunset
I know you won't remember this;
But, there are certain things that I miss;
The long walks;
The long talks;
Sitting for hours while you slept on my chest;
Trying not to move, so you could rest;
Listening to you while you would sing your favorite song;
Cringing as I tried to sing along;
Smiling when you would laugh at my silly puns;
Just being around you was so much fun;
But, the one memory that stands out more than the rest;
It is what I remember best;
We had driven to the mountain top;
It was to be the days last stop;
The sky was such a beautiful shade of red;
And while you stared straight ahead;
I couldn't help but look at you;
And as I did...my love for you grew;
You then slipped your hand into mine;
Your gaze never leaving the skyline;
As the sun slowly sank behind the horizon;
Its last rays of light seemingly desperate to hang on;
Your body was bathed in the golden red sea of light;
Never in my life had I see such a wonderful sight;
And as the sky grew dark;
The stars began to show up and give the heavens a new spark;
I remember seeing all of this from the reflection in your eyes;
But, to me, the most beautiful thing that day wasn't in the skies;
It was sitting next to me in the car;
We had come so far;
You finally looked at me with tears rolling down your face;
You smiled and thanked me for bringing you to this place;
And even though we have since went our separate ways;
When I think back to those days;
I am so thankful that we met;
And we shared...that sunset.

The Kiss
The Kiss
What is going on here?;
My
heart is about to explode I fear;
It is beating so fast;
I wonder how long this feeling will last?;
She is so pretty;
Even better yet, she is so witty;
Why does she keep touching my arm?;
She is really winning me over with her
charm;
Her brown eyes are so amazing;
Perfect for my constant gazing;
Oh no, she caught me staring!;
I really hope she doesn’t think I'm
overbearing;
Drat! Now she caught me smiling, what do
I do?;
Is it my imagination or is she grinning
too?;
Ugh!
"What are you smiling at"? she just asked;
Oh God...I am so embarrassed, I wish my
face was masked!;
"N...nothing” Why oh why did I say
that?;
I just want to run and hide
somewhere...STAT!;
"Oh...you have to tell me...you have
the prettiest eyelashes I've ever seen";
Wait...what? That has to be the strangest compliment I've
ever heard...course...what do I know...I'm only eighteen;
What the heck, just go for it;
I'm curious as to what she'll say, I have
to admit;
"I'll tell you...for a kiss" I said;
Yikes...look at her face...I'm dead!;
"Hmmmm, OK", was her reply;
Wow!
I guess I'm not about to die!;
I'm so scared;
This is more than I ever dared;
Her perfume smells so good;
Will this get any better? I think it
could;
Her lips!
They taste so sweet;
Thank you God for letting us meet!;
Please don't ever let this end!;
My whole life with this girl I would
spend;
This has to be the greatest kiss ever;
Ha...and I thought I was so clever;
Clearly I'm not as slick as I thought;
Just a friendly date was all I sought;
This girl has just stolen my heart;
Was that her plan from the start?;
That was so many years ago;
In that cute little gazebo;
And when I think back to that night do
you know what I miss?;
The kiss.

So...the other day my wonderful baby girl and I made a little wager. We got a bunch of mulberry trees to plant and I where I wanted to plant them didn't meet the Isabella seal of approval. She kept giving me grief over where I picked and she basically said I was an idiot and that I didn't know anything about plants. I told her...fine...you pick where you want and you plant a couple...and then later on we'll see whose plants are growing better. Today...after I got done mowing the grass me and my son decided to do a little check on our little competition. I'm happy to say...aw heck...I'm not saying anything...just look at the picture. :)

What is love...oh baby don't hurt me...don't hurt me no more...
...but...seriously...what IS love??
For me...love is that feeling that takes your breath away you get to see that special someone...or that excitement you feel when you get a text message from that someone special...when...even in the middle of the night if you hear that familiar little text message sound from your phone...you grab your phone just to check...and if it's from the special person...you smile and write something back. Really tho...if it were ANYONE else...you'd be TICKED that they woke you up! Or the sadness you get when you don't hear from them in, what seems like forever...when it was actually just 10 minutes since their last text or call. Even better yet...love for me is when you can envision yourself growing old with someone...when looks don't matter and it is WHO THEY ARE that you enjoy. A person that makes you feel like, as long as they believe in you, you can take on the entire world. A person that you would die for if you had too...someone who you would follow to the ends of the earth...and then jump off the edge if need be. (Well...maybe not the jumping part. Heh).
Of course there are different kinds of love. The love I have for my children is unmatched. There could never be any woman that could make me love her more than I love my children. There is no love greater than a parents love for their children.
There is also the love you have for the rest of your family and friends. I would do just about anything for my loved ones. They make me who I am...and I hope I do the same (uh...as long as its a positive...ahem).
But...the love you have for someone when you are IN LOVE is something entirely different. I've not been IN LOVE with many women...3 to be exact (I'm VERY picky when it comes to love). With all 3 I gave everything I could...and all 3 have ended with me...uhm...not being very happy. The pain of losing someone due to death hurts...I know...I lost my mother (and I'm positive losing a child is infinitely worse), but the pain of losing someone because they CHOOSE to not love you anymore...that REALLY stings. I went through all the emotions...shock, the sadness, the denial, the anger, the confusion, the sadness, the denial, the lather, rinse, repeat...er...you get the idea.
So...me being me...a very logical person, started thinking...why? Why do we go through all these emotions? To say you love someone with all your heart...or you've been broken hearted...implies it has something physically to do with your heart. Well...in reality...it has NOTHING to do with your heart. Apparently...according to research...all love is, is a reaction from your brain. Like everything else...thoughts are just electrical currents running to and fro in your mind.
According to research done by Rutgers University (see more info here) there are 3 stages of love. Lust, attraction, and then attachment. Lust (sex drive or libido) is...what it is. There is no sugar coating it. Its the result of all the testosterone and estrogen flowin' through our bodies. Attraction (in humans termed “passionate love,” “obsessive love,” or “infatuation”) is where you find yourself thinking of someone day in and day out...and its driven by adrenaline, dopamine, and serotonin. We've all been there...its awesome while its happening...and then sucks when its gone. The last stage is attachment (termed “companionate love” in humans)...and is controlled by oxytocin and vasopressin. I, personally, think this is the best part of being in love...but sadly, so many people end a relationship before it can get to this stage (or even worse...when you are at this stage...and they aren't). Attachment is the feeling couples get when they KNOW they are with the person they want to be with...they make the most successful parents and are the cute old couples that are loving until the end. Like this:

(and just for the record...that picture chokes me up every time I see it).
When I was younger...I never had any desire to "get with" as many girls as I could. I always wanted to find the perfect girl (my soul mate)...get a good job...get married...have a son and daughter...white picket fence...dog, cat...grow old...watch as my children grew up to be even more happy and successful than I was...then in my final days sit on the front porch watching the grandchildren play in the yard as I hold the hand of the woman I loved.
Nice fairy tale...isn't it?
So...anyway...as I was doing my research I got to thinking...if love is all chemical and electrical impulses...couldn't one find some kinda way to block or stop that? Soooo...me being me...started thinking...if I could come up with some kinda pill that blocked those things from happening...you could help people that are suffering from heartaches of all types...be it from a breakup...death...just being sad. I thought...HOLY CRAP...I'm on to something here.
Then...5 seconds later I realized...yeah...a drug that makes people forget all about their troubles. I think its called...LSD...or cocaine...or pot...or alcohol. All of which are things I refuse to do.
Dang it!
So...I'm back to my original plan...somehow physically extracting the part of my brain that controls all those useless and crappy emotions.
WISH ME LUCK!
*and just for the record...my last 5 attempts of extracting part of my brain haven't went so well...but...at least I'm only hearing 3 voices in my head now instead of the 8! Yay!

Republic Wireless
Saving money. In this day and age...its what most of us want. One bill that REALLY kills me is a cell phone. I am paying over $150 bucks for two smartphones a month...and neither phone is used all that much.One day I found an article online about a new company called Republic Wireless...and how they were going to shake the cell phone world up. OK...I thought...I'll bite...and I clicked the link. Basically...they use WiFi for the bulk of their calls, but when it isn't available...it uses cellular signals. Interesting...I thought. You buy your phone upfront ($299)...then you pay for whatever plan you want to use. They have a WiFi only plan...which is $5 a month...unlimited calls, text, and data. Hmmm...I thought. What if you are traveling and can't get WiFi? So...they have another plan that is unlimited WiFi and cellular...which allows you to make unlimited calls and text on both WiFi and cellular, but the data is limited to WiFi only...for only $10 a month. Again...I thought...hmmmmm. I thinking...for only 10 bucks...I could always wait until I got somewhere that has WiFi...so...that sounds like a heck of a deal! They also have a unlimited talk, text, and data on WiFi and 3G for $30 a month...and a unlimited talk, text, and data on WiFi and 4G for $40 a month...but...those didn't interest me...still a GREAT deal compared to everything else!
The REAL question was...how good is the service? If its only 10 bucks a month...but it doesn't work well...its a wasted 10 and the cost of the phone (granted...they do offer a 30 trial and if you aren't happy you can return the phone). So...for MONTHS I pondered and pondered and pondered. Finally I decided to just bite the bullet and order the phone. It only took about a week to get the phone (a sweet Moto X) and I had read that if you plan to use the cellular portion you HAD to activate it where there is Sprint coverage (they partner with Sprint, but they will roam on just about all CDMA towers...such as Verizon and Appalachian Wireless).
So...I took my daughter over to London where Sprint has pretty good coverage and activated the phone. We did have to find a place that offered WiFi so we could configure the phone since I didn't get the 3 or 4G package...but once we found a WiFi zone...we were off and running. The initial calls worked perfectly and the sound quality was just as good as any other cell phone I'd used.
On the drive home I had my daughter keep checking to see if the phone would continue to get signal...and to my surprise...it only showed no bars a time or two the whole way. And...thanks to Appalachian Wireless...coverage is pretty good in Hyden and most of the way to my house.
Once we got home...I connected to our WiFi and the phone has been working GREAT! I took the phone to work with me...and connected to our WiFi there...and I was at our most remote location...in our wiring closet deep inside the building...and was talking like a BOSS! People were asking me..."do you get signal...HERE?" So...I had to show off and brag a little that I was using a WiFi phone and that I was saving a bunch of money.
I have since given the phone to my daughter...and I'm using my old phone (a Nokia Lumia 920), but I'm REALLY considering getting another phone when my contract runs out. With 2 phones...I would be saving $130 a month...but...since I would have to buy the phone that would put the total investment of phones at $600, so it would take me about 6 months to really start saving money...but after the cost is paid for...total awesomeness!
Anyhoo...just thought I would share my tale of saving money on cell phones...now...if I could only save money on car insurance...:)
The Most Beautiful Angel
Its kinda hard to read...so here it is.
I once found the most beautiful angel I'd ever seen;
She was bruised, battered, and had broken wings;
I, ever so gently, held her in my arms;
Told her it was ok, no one else would do her harm;
I kissed away her tears;
Tried to ease her fears;
And over time, she began to look at me with the most amazingly beautiful green eyes;
I would look at her and pray that her words were not lies;
"Don't do it!" the voice inside my head would yell, "you know what happens when you fall in love"!;
But, how could I not, when she was obviously a gift sent from above?;
My shattered heart was slowly mending;
My life, it would seem, was not ending;
A new beginning? I would ask;
She assured me that she was up for the task;
The beautiful angel, MY Angel, had come into my life;
And now, now would she be my wife?;
What was left of my broken heart was for her;
But sadly, this is where the story begins to blur;
The angel began to say different things;
She no longer wanted my ring;
And even though I tried to convince her to stay;
I knew from her words, there was no way;
"Please, please don't go", I would plead;
She would only look at me and say, "I'm sorry, I'm not your soulmate, I'm not what you need";
I would cry;
She would sigh;
Then I knew it was time;
The angel was no longer mine;
And despite being down this road before;
The pain was more than you can imagine when she finally walked out my door;
And with that, I knew I had lost my queen;
The most beautiful angel I'd ever seen.

I found this picture on a free computer wallpaper site and thought it would go great with a poem that I wrote a while back. I'm not sure who made the picture...but its amazing. If the owner of it wants me to remove it...just let me know and I'll take it down ASAP.
